TOUR DE TWAIN IS BORN
Fullerton, CA (July 1, 2024)
When the initial concept of the Gold Country Classic came about, local dealer and Frogtown Classic International BMX Days sponsor, Chris Greene of Bear Valley Bicycles said, “You gotta do a tour, gravel ride too! Show off the Calaveras County! Skeptical at first, organizers were wary of biting off too much the first year. But Chris supplied a great route and we found enthusiasm and support from the Mother Lode Bike Coalition (Rob Williams) and the Calaveras Visitors Bureau (Martin Huberty) to make it happen.
In addition to the racers, recreational riders will be able to be part of the Gold Country Classic by riding the first annual Tour De Twain. The total ride is a little over 20 miles long with almost 2,000 feet of climbing. Riders will leave the Calaveras Country Fairgrounds on a bike tour first on dirt and then into downtown Angels Camp. Then ride up to Murphy’s, past the Ironstone Winery on to Red Hill road with pavement and gravel. They will finish on dirt with over one mile across a ranch and back into the fairgrounds. This first event will be something great to build upon for the future.
